EL Activity today...

Hi kids,
I had great fun this morning discussing the use of metaphors and imagery...I hope you enjoyed the session too. I am very glad with the group who had participated very well...all pupils were not only able to answer the question but also give me the clues...Well done.

Here's a video to illustrate my point this morning...

Imagery - Imagery is used by writers and poets to invoke these sensory impressions in the mind of the reader. It is a very effective style of writing which reaches out to the reader more easily.

He fumed and charged like an angry bull.
The taste of that first defeat was bitter indeed.
He felt like the flowers were waving him a hello.
The eerie silence was shattered by her scream.
After that first sale, his cash register never stopped ringing.
He could hear his world crashing down when he heard the news about her.
The fighter jet swooped down like an eagle after its prey.
The word spread like leaves in a storm.
He could never escape from the iron grip of desire.
He could hear the footsteps of doom nearing.
The ants began their daily marching drill.

Metaphors - comparison of two unlike things

He has a heart of stone/gold/lion.
A blanket of snow covered the streets.
Her soft voice was music to Andy’s ears.
Her bubbly personality cheered him up.
The news inflamed her temper and she decided to resign.
When you're feeling blue call out to me.
You light up my life with your presence.
Only shades of gray make up life according to her.
A colorful remark was not half bad either.

So build up your word bank from now kids...I KNOW you WILL!!!
