Situational Writing again...
Hi 6B,
For today's lesson, let's view this text first....

An apology letter shows that you are sorry and says that you value your relationship with the other party. The sooner an apology letter is written and sent out the better it is for the relationship. Depending on the nature of the letter, it can either be written in the friendly or the business letter format.
Friendly/Personal Apology Letter
If this is a personal letter you should start the letter by saying that you are sorry to the recipient. Next you should admit your fault and take responsibility for your actions. Next you should volunteer or ask if there is any way that you can help out to resolve the situation. Then you should let the recipient that you will try to make sure that the situation will not happen again. To close off the letter you should apologize again. When writing a personal apology letter it should come from the heart and be sincere.
Formal/Business Apology Letter
If this is a business letter you should start the letter by saying that you are sorry to the recipient. Next you should give an explanation as to what went wrong. Then you should try to rectify the problem. To close off the letter you should apologize again.
Let's view more samples...
What else can you write an APOLOGY LETTER For ?

Contextual Clues ARE V V Helpful!!!
Contextual Redefinition offers you specific steps for deducing the meaning of unknown (or unclear) words in a reading passage by seeking clues from their context in a larger text selection.
Steps to Contextual Redefinition:
Steps to Contextual Redefinition:
- Select several key words from a reading selection (especially words that have multiple meanings or might otherwise be unclear to readers).
- Read the text selection, noting the specific sentences in which each of the words appears.
- Revisit the previous definitions and see which, if any, reflect the use of these words in the context of the selection. Use dictionaries if definitions lack enough clarity to match the contextal meaning of the words.
Here's an online game on Guessing the Meaning of words with contextual clues. It may seem tough but the sentences reveal a lot about the meaning of the selected word. SO do not give up ok! Post your ratings to me....

Look out for the clues....
Hey kids,
Today we completed 1 comprehension exercise. I hope it was easier to tackle the questions as I had grouped them according to the why, what & how questions. There are a handful of you who have not put in effort. Please do try...you can do it.
Earlier this morning we did some simple synthesis and transformation exercises with the infinite 'to'. Most of you did a great job. I was particularly happy with Alif, Hui Tat and Khairul....good job guys...and keep up the spirit....

EL Activity today...
Hi kids,
I had great fun this morning discussing the use of metaphors and imagery...I hope you enjoyed the session too. I am very glad with the group who had participated very well...all pupils were not only able to answer the question but also give me the clues...Well done.
Here's a video to illustrate my point this morning...
Imagery - Imagery is used by writers and poets to invoke these sensory impressions in the mind of the reader. It is a very effective style of writing which reaches out to the reader more easily.
He fumed and charged like an angry bull.
The taste of that first defeat was bitter indeed.
He felt like the flowers were waving him a hello.
The eerie silence was shattered by her scream.
After that first sale, his cash register never stopped ringing.
He could hear his world crashing down when he heard the news about her.
The fighter jet swooped down like an eagle after its prey.
The word spread like leaves in a storm.
He could never escape from the iron grip of desire.
He could hear the footsteps of doom nearing.
The ants began their daily marching drill.
Metaphors - comparison of two unlike things
He has a heart of stone/gold/lion.
A blanket of snow covered the streets.
Her soft voice was music to Andy’s ears.
Her bubbly personality cheered him up.
The news inflamed her temper and she decided to resign.
When you're feeling blue call out to me.
You light up my life with your presence.
Only shades of gray make up life according to her.
A colorful remark was not half bad either.
So build up your word bank from now kids...I KNOW you WILL!!!

EL Unit 1 - Narratives - Mysteries
Hi boys and girls,
So we have begun our lessons today. And what was it that we were discussing about.....yes Tackling mysteries...........
Here's a synopses about the book introduced in this unit...

Orphan Henry's stingy Aunt Agatha likes her boarders short, to fit in the tiny attic space she rents out, and small, so they won't eat more than two slices of toast in the morning.
When Harvey Angell moves in, he fits the bill perfectly. He's small, and best of all, he never eats breakfast. Harvey Angell brightens up Henry's life like a supercharged thunderbolt. But despite his Connecting Kit and claim to be researching energy fields, Henry is sure Harvey's no ordinary electrician.
He's up to something. And Henry's right. Because Harvey has special plans for Henry's household. Very special indeed.
So what do you think Harvey is up to? Post your thoughts here.....
Happy New Year
Hi my dear 6B pupils,
I am indeed priviledged to be your form and English teacher. Hope you had a restful December holidays. 2011 will prove to be a challenge for both me and you but I believe that we will work together and cross this path.
Clearing PSLE....yes that is our ultimate aim for 2011.
So put your heart, mind and soul in doing the best for your PSLE.
Once again, welcome to 2011 and best wishes to you!
